Slow Start, Long Beginnings
February 4 – March 19, 2011
Opening Reception: Friday, February 4th from 5 – 9pm

Slow Start, Long Beginnings is a collaborative, gallery wide installation by Karin Haas, Jessica Steeber and Cassandra Smith.  The artists view the gallery as an environment to be interacted with.  All pieces in the exhibition were created through collaboration specifically for this space which creates a dialogue around real and artificial environments and relationships and the communication that supports them.

Individually and collectively the artists’ work maintains a strong sensitivity to aesthetics without compromise.  The initial beauty of the object is balanced by a subtle sense of unease and intrigue. By manipulating natural and organic forms, three separate installations will define and redefine the space, relying heavily on repetition and pattern to speak to the viewer. Organic forms give synthetic materials new meaning, organic materials take geometric forms, and drawings collapse under the imposition of varying personalities. A dialogue is created between the viewer and the entire space, including the organic and the artificial forms that mimic nature and combine to form an environment of imposed unity and discordant energy.
