WPCA Board Member Mark Wyss Wins Playwright Competition

mark wyss headshotCongratulations to Mark Wyss, WPCA friend and board member, for winning FUSION Theatre Company‘s playwright competition, “The Seven.” His play “A Disappearing”
will be produced by FUSION and can be seen at The Cell Theatre In Albuquerque, NM, from June 5-15.

Mark and his wife Sandra runs a production company called Sandmark22 and put on a production of his play “A Bulletproof Heart” as a fundraiser for WPCA in 2013.

We are looking forward to seeing more of Mark’s work here locally and celebrate his continued success on the national stage. We are honored to thrilled to have him on our team!

Milwaukee Resident Winner of Playwriting Festival

(Albuquerque, NM)  FUSION Theatre Company (FUSIONnm.org), New Mexico’s professional theatre company, is proud to announce that playwright Mark Wyss is one of the seven winners of FUSION’s  ninth annual short works festival, “The Seven”.  Milwaukee resident Wyss’ work, “A Disappearing”, was chosen from a submission pool of 583 scripts from 38 states and eight countries.   FUSION will produce the world-premiere of Mr. Wyss’ play June 5th-15th at The Cell Theatre in Albuquerque, NM. “The Seven” is the final production of FUSION’s ’13-’14 main stage season.

Mark Wyss is the award-winning author of twenty short plays which have been produced all around the country. In 2013, Mark and his wife, Sandra, formed SandMark22, a production company, and produced Mark’s first full-length play A Bulletproof Heart as a successful fundraiser for Walker’s Point Center for the Arts in Milwaukee (www.wpca-milwaukee.org) where Mark is on the Board of Directors. “The Seven” is a playwriting competition that stages seven fully produced world premieres each year. Both a Jury Prize and an Audience Choice Award are given, with the Jury winner receiving transport to and lodging at the festival. Other winners are: “Ginny” by Anna Fox, Los Angeles, CA; “The Secret Keeper” by David Meyers, Ft. Lee, NJ; “Timmy Perlmutter Goes Flying” by Paul Lewis, Bainbridge Island, WA: “The Starfire Dance” by Deborah Yarchun, Minneapolis, MN; “Battling the Ghost of Max Schmeling” by Thomas M. Atkinson, Anderson Township, OH; “The Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies” by Kathleen Cahill, Salt Lake City, UT.

Six of the seven winning playwrights will be attending the festival, and there will be interactive post- performance events following every show.

“The Seven” features a professional ensemble cast as well as seven different directors, including: Robert Benedetti, Jacqueline Reid, Laurie Thomas, Jen Grigg, Paul Ford, Danny Kovacs and Aaron Worley.

Named one of the “ten emerging theatre companies in the U.S.” by the American Theatre Wing, FUSION is currently concluding its thirteenth year of production and is funded in part by the City of Albuquerque, the McCune Foundation, The Shubert Foundation, Actors’ Equity Association, Bernalillo County, the Scott Family Foundation, and New Mexico Arts.

The Cell Theatre is located at 700 1st St. NW, in the Downtown Albuquerque Arts and Cultural District just south of Lomas.  Performances will be held Thursdays and Fridays at 8:00 pm, Saturdays at 2:00 and 8:00 pm and Sundays at 2:00 and 6:00 pm.  This event plays to full capacity and reservations are highly recommended.  Tickets may be purchased online at FUSIONnm.org or by phone at: 505.766.9412.
