January 16 – April 4, 2015
Opening Reception: Winter Gallery Night, Friday, January 16, 5–9pm.
We proudly continue our 2014–2015 Featured Member Exhibition installment with artist Kevin Giese‘s “Glass House” and “My Buddhist Cave” series. The series presents the overlapping and divide of the inner self and the outer world through ambiguous boundaries created of sharp incised lines and ghostly shadows in black and white landscapes. Kevin was one of three artists in the 2011 WPCA exhibition “Quiet.”
Join us for the opening reception on Winter Gallery Night.
Kevin Giese received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1992 and Master of Fine Arts degree in 2007, both from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He has exhibited throughout Wisconsin and the Midwest in solo and group shows. Some highlights include the Dean Jensen Gallery, Cardinal Stritch University, Northwestern Mutual Life, and Lawrence University. Kevin’s installation “Ancestor” was 2014’s featured Winter Chapel at Portrait Society Gallery.
Kevin’s choice of imagery and materiality in his artworks reflect his affinity with the natural world. The conceptual framework and working process that began during the early period of his career has matured for his present drawing and installation work. Kevin is an associate lecturer at the Peck School of the Arts UW-Milwaukee, where he teaches courses in drawing, sculpture and advanced woodworking.
More information on Kevin’s career and artworks can be found at www.kevingiese.com.
Each year, a juror selects four artists from the Annual Members Show to exhibit individually in their own Featured Member Exhibition. Each exhibition opens on Gallery Night and runs for 10 weeks. This year’s juror is Michael Davidson, Chair of Fine Arts at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. The 2014-15 Featured Member Artists were announced during the opening reception of the Annual Members Show on Friday, September 5, 2014.
