Kate is leaving…

kbOur Executive Director and longtime educator Kate Brosnan Bradley will be leaving the organization in order to relocate to Arizona to be with her family members. Although we are sad to see her go, we respect and admire her decision to dedicate this time of her life to her loved ones. Anyone who has ever been around Kate has most likely been affected by her warm laughter and sincere kindness. Those who have worked with her have lauded her professionalism and astute leadership.

Kate started at WPCA in 2006 as Education Director and became Executive Director in January 2014, replacing the retired Gary Tuma. As Education Director, Kate built up the arts education programming, increased funding, programs and attendance, tripling the amount of students served through on-site programs like After School Art Classes, Afternoons with Art, Summer Art Camp and artist residencies in various schools throughout Milwaukee. One of her more public projects with students, a series of mandala murals, can be seen on the building exterior of Milwaukee Parkside School of the Arts. As Executive Director, Kate continued the organization’s mission to serve the community through art and arts education; she worked closely with local artists on exhibitions and upheld the organization’s community presence.

WPCA Board President Lona Long Velasco, who has been with the organization since 1997, has worked closely with Kate and assisted in her professional development. Long Velasco stated, “As much as we are saddened by the thought of losing Kate, we are confident that the board and staff of WPCA will continue to fuel the healthy and vibrant organization that Kate has helped build. We know that the next executive director will have her guidance and support through the transition.”

Long Velasco and the Board are in the process of reviewing candidates for the position. With the assistance from the Board, Kate will continue to manage day-to-day operations until the position is adequately filled. Arts Education Coordinator Mary Sugiyama Sanchez and Marketing Communications Coordinator Howard Leu will continue their duties without disruption.
