We wrapped up another awesome in-school art residency this week at St. Anthony School. Our artist Corey Smith led the students in a 5-week long program, meeting twice a week.
The project called “Joyful Life” asked the students to tell stories of their joyful memories and experiences, and illustrate the stories that were made into their own handmade story books.

AwA Workshop celebrating Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, we are having a one day workshop that combines the art of spoken words and drawing inspired by his “I Have a Dream” speech.
The workshop will be led by poet Victoria Porter (of MVP Speaks) and teen mentors from Arts @ Large. Family of the students are welcome to join us in the last hour where we’ll perform what we created in the workshop.

For the month of December, Walker’s Point Center for the Arts will be hosting two 3-day AwA workshops.
December 21–23 & 28–30
Open to all children ages 6–12.
During week one, we will focus on channeling the holiday spirit of caring and creating warmth for ourselves and other with three diverse projects designed to teach children the meaning of giving through art.
Week two, we will make Mexican traditional corn husk art with artist Yesica Coria. Join us for this fun three day workshop for beginner to advanced learners.
