The Grilled Cheese Grant is an annual fundraising event/micro-grant hosted by After School Special. The grant is designed to help provide support for undergraduate seniors at The Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) and The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) who are working to complete their senior thesis projects in Fine Arts and Design.
We invite the community to a one-night celebration at Walker’s Point Center for the Arts to celebrate the hard work undergraduate seniors already have and will continue to put into their senior thesis projects. With donated food supplies from local businesses, we serve grilled cheese sandwiches for $5. Everyone that purchases a grilled cheese is provided one ballot to vote for one of the five finalists. Finalists for the Grilled Cheese Grant are selected by a jury of distinguished artists, educators, and creative minds not directly affiliated with MIAD, UWM, or After School Special. The amount of money for the grant is solely based on how much money is raised; 60% goes to the artist, 25% goes to After School Special, 15% goes to a local non-profit (for three years, we have chosen to donate to Diverse & Resilient, a local sexual advocacy organization.)
