The Art of Coding: Demystifying the building blocks of computer programming
Tuesday, March 7, 2017, 6–8 pm

Instructed by Benjamin Juarez

We’ve all heard that coding is essential in our day-to-day lives (you’re looking at coding right now). Understanding coding can give a better insight on how the digital environment in which we live operates. Coding has also been a tool and medium used by artists for decades.

So what is it?

We will answer that question and others in this two hour interactive workshop on the building blocks of computer programming, using the language known as Python. In order to understand how to create a computer program, you have to know its core features; that’s when the art of coding truly begins!

We will begin with a basic introduction of programming languages, and then jump right into coding. Two hours isn’t much time in comparison to what you will eventually learn as you journey through coding. However, our brief time together will help give you knowledge to take you as far as you’re willing to go.

The Art of Coding is structured as a class for adults 18+. Because our venue will not have computers, your own personal laptop will be required. If you do not have a laptop, please let us know in advance and we’ll arrange for one to be available to you during the workshop.

Price: Sliding scale of $20–$50 donation, benefiting WPCA’s art education programming.
