2016–17 Featured Member Exhibition Juror

We are honored to have artist, educator, gallerist Mark Lawson as the juror of this year’s Featured Member Exhibition (FME) artists. Mark has been a champion of Milwaukee’s art community for decades. He is an instructor and Director of Galleries at Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. He is also one of the founders and organizers of Riverwest Artist Association and Jazz Gallery, which for decades has been an important incubator of visual, performance art as well as jazz and experimental music.

Mark will select four outstanding artists based on their artwork in the Annual Members Show. Each artist will be awarded a solo Featured Member Exhibition — each opens on Gallery Night seasonally. The 2016-17 Featured Member Exhibition series artists will be announced at 6:30 pm on Friday, September 2, during the opening reception of the 2016 Annual Members Show.

Mark Lawson has been an exhibiting artist since 1969.   Over the years his work has evolved from drawing and painting into the production of sculptures largely comprised of repurposed objects. His interests and involvements in visual art also include curating and orchestrating exhibitions, which has been his profession for over twenty years.

He is best know in the Milwaukee area for his work as Director of Galleries at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design, and for his long time involvement with the Riverwest Artists Association. As an arts activist/administrator, Mark has served on many boards and committees ranging from grassroots neighborhood groups to departments and commissions of various local branches of government.

Started in 2012, the Featured Member Exhibition (FME) series provides a spotlight for four local artists annually to have their artwork seen by hundreds of visitors throughout a three month period. For more information and list of past artists and jurors, please visit: http://wpca-milwaukee.org/featured-member-opportunity/
