Creation is a profound act of power, whether it’s giving birth, bringing an idea to life, or crafting art. It requires resilience, vulnerability, nurturing, and constant evolution, often at a personal cost—time, energy, or a reshaping of identity. Yet, we tend to overlook the sacrifices involved in the act of creating, even though it is creation itself that sustains us. I use feminine forms in my work to highlight the fact that historically women’s contributions to creation—through labor, caregiving, or artistic expression—have been undervalued or unacknowledged. Women have long been expected to sacrifice for others, often without recognition.
The feminine form represents generative power, yet by pairing it with the titles containing words that are reserved for honoring war and domination—I aim to disrupt the focus on violence and conflict, while highlighting the quiet, profound sacrifices involved in nurturing life and ideas. I also draw on the archetypes of the Maiden, Mother, and Crone. These stages aren’t confined to womanhood, as they represent universal energies within all of us.
They reflect the emotional, psychological, and spiritual layers of creation, as each phase of transformation and sustenance flows into the next. Ultimately, this work is a reminder that creation, not destruction, sustains humanity and carries us forward. What if we, as a society, revered creation—the act of bringing life, ideas, or art into the world—as the highest form of sacrifice and strength?
