Walker’s Point Center for the Arts presents The Alan Moore Project. Alan Moore, along with his mother and father Joan and Burton Moore, assembled a collection of artwork that reflects the counterculture attitudes and art approaches of a disparate group of artists living and working in New York City, especially those who united in a variety of co-ops, collectives and art groups. The collection was housed in their East Side Milwaukee home where it remained until Joan Moore passed away in the fall of 2020.
A selected work from the collection, curated by Michael Flanagan and Kimberly Storage, will feature work by artists Kiki Smith, Keith Haring, Judy Rifka, Robert Goldman, aka Bobby G, Richard Bosman, Tom Otterness, John Ahearn, Rigoberto Torres, John “Crash” Matos, and Louise Bourgeois, among many others.
Alan Moore was a participant in the raucous art movements of the late 1970s and into the 1980s in New York City. He has written and published numerous essays and books about that time and has also extensively researched and written about the ‘squatting’ movements in NYC and Europe. His book “Art Gangs: Protest & Counterculture in New York City” is a well-researched look at the times. He is also an amateur archivist with a large collection of video artworks which is in the process of cataloging, preserving and disseminating by the XFR Collective.
Alan W. Moore currently lives in Madrid, Spain with his partner Malena. They will be in Milwaukee during the first weeks of the exhibition.
