Embracing Community
Our Día de los Muertos celebration is more than tradition—it is a joyful return to one another, shaped by memory, migration, and the borderless ways we create belonging. Through Embracing Community, we honor the understanding that home is not limited to a single place. It is carried across borders, held in our stories, and rebuilt through culture, ritual, and collective care.
For many in our community, home has been a journey—moving through lands, languages, and generations. Día de los Muertos becomes a moment where those journeys are celebrated. It is a space where ancestors travel freely, where memories cross borders without restriction, and where the experiences of migration are honored not through sorrow, but through the joy reclaimed in gathering, remembering, and creating together.
In this celebration, home is memory: the scent of a familiar dish, the rhythm of a song passed down, the altar that gathers generations in one place. It is the warmth of seeing loved ones’ faces on an ofrenda, the laughter shared in storytelling, and the comfort of traditions that remind us we are never alone.
Home is also collective. It is built through shared rituals, shared creativity, and shared joy—through altars made side by side, art that reflects our lived experiences, and community spaces that welcome families, artists, youth, elders, and partners into a shared circle of remembrance. Embracing Community reminds us that belonging is expansive and that we create home through each other.
And home is resilience. For those who have migrated, rebuilt, or carried culture across distances, reclaiming joy is a powerful act. Día de los Muertos allows us to celebrate the strength of our ancestors, the creativity of our communities, and the ways we continue to shape a future where memory, culture, and connection flourish.
Through altars, art, music, and collective reflection, we uplift the stories that bind us and celebrate home as something we inherit, something we carry, and something we create together—without borders, with joy, and with deep community love.
Cultivando Comunidad
Nuestra celebración de Día de los Muertos es más que tradición—es un regreso alegre a nuestra comunidad, formado por la memoria, la migración y las maneras sin fronteras en que construimos pertenencia. Cultivando Comunidad, honramos la idea de que el hogar no es un solo lugar. Se lleva en el corazón, viaja con nuestras historias y se reconstruye a través de la cultura, los rituales y el cuidado colectivo.
Para muchas familias, el hogar ha sido un camino—cruzando tierras, idiomas y generaciones. El Día de los Muertos se convierte en un momento para celebrar esos recorridos. Es un espacio donde los ancestros llegan sin límites, donde la memoria cruza fronteras libremente, y donde las experiencias de migración se honran no desde la tristeza, sino desde la alegría recuperada al reunirnos, recordar y crear juntos.
En esta celebración, el hogar es memoria: el aroma de un platillo querido, la melodía de una canción heredada, el altar que reúne a generaciones en un mismo lugar. Es la calidez de ver los rostros de nuestros seres queridos en la ofrenda, la risa compartida en las historias, y el consuelo de las tradiciones que nos recuerdan que nunca estamos solos.

Se construye con rituales compartidos, creatividad compartida y alegría compartida—con altares hechos lado a lado, arte que refleja nuestras vivencias, y espacios comunitarios que reciben a familias, artistas, jóvenes, mayores y colaboradores en un círculo común de memoria. Cultivando Comunidad nos recuerda que la pertenencia es amplia y que el hogar se crea a través de quienes nos rodean.
Y el hogar es resiliencia. Para quienes han migrado, reconstruido o llevado la cultura a través de distancias, recuperar la alegría es un acto poderoso. El Día de los Muertos nos permite celebrar la fuerza de nuestros ancestros, la creatividad de nuestras comunidades y las maneras en que seguimos construyendo un futuro donde la memoria, la cultura y la conexión florecen.
A través de altares, arte, música y reflexión colectiva, elevamos las historias que nos unen y celebramos el hogar como algo heredado, algo que llevamos con nosotros y algo que creamos juntos—sin fronteras, con alegría y con profundo amor comunitario.

Inspired by the Purépecha belief that monarch butterflies are the souls of the departed returning to visit us, this free activity guide invites families to create their own nicho mini-altars in remembrance of loved ones. Through art, storytelling, and reflection, we celebrate eternal memories and welcome the spirits of those who came before us.
Perfect for all ages, this hands-on activity encourages creativity, connection, and cultural appreciation as we honor the lives that continue to shape our own.
